Installation precautions for middle-opening pumps

The middle opening pump is a common term we use. The middle opening pump (middle opening circulation) is also known as a single-stage double-suction centrifugal pump. Its main feature is the large flow of the medium being transported. Now, let's take a look at the installation and usage precautions for the middle opening pump!

The middle opening pump is a common term we use. The middle opening pump (middle opening circulation) is also known as a single-stage double-suction centrifugal pump. Its main feature is the large flow of the medium being transported. Let's learn about the installation and usage precautions for the middle opening pump!

The installation of the middle opening pump needs to consider the following points:

1) The foundation for the middle opening pump should be solid, capable of absorbing pump vibrations and permanently supporting the unit. The foundation must be able to support 1.5 times the weight of the unit (including the motor). Generally, reinforced concrete is used as the foundation. The weight of the foundation itself: for direct connection types with motors, it should be more than 3 times the mechanical weight; for types directly connected to engines (such as diesel engines), it should be more than 5 times the mechanical weight. Please read:

2) The foundation for the middle opening pump must be accepted by relevant departments, and only after confirming that the dimensions meet the foundation drawings can it be handed over for installation;

3) The foundation must be level and smooth, using a bubble level to ensure horizontal alignment;

4) When pouring the foundation for the middle opening pump for the first time, reserve positions for the pump base and motor base anchor bolt holes. The surface of the first pour should be 20-40mm lower than the bottom surface of the unit's base plate to allow for secondary pouring. After the cement hardens, sufficient grouting should be injected into the pump base during installation with the pump and motor, ensuring there are no cavities and avoiding long interruptions during continuous grouting. The quality of grouting directly affects the vibration and noise of the pump unit, so please be careful.

Precautions for using the middle opening pump

1) When starting the middle opening pump, first perform several trial runs. Once oil flow direction and sound are normal, run it under low pressure for 5-10 minutes before entering normal operation. Before starting the plunger pump, clean hydraulic oil must be injected into the pump from the oil drain port on the casing.

2) The viscosity of oil changes with temperature; as oil temperature rises, viscosity decreases. Therefore, it is required to keep oil temperature below 60 degrees. To ensure that hydraulic pumps can operate stably at different working temperatures, oils with excellent temperature characteristics, chemical stability, and anti-foaming properties that are not easily affected by temperature changes must be selected.

3) The oil used in middle opening pumps must be clean and free from mechanical impurities and corrosive substances. Hydraulic systems without filtering devices on suction pipes must use an oil filter (with a filtration precision of less than 25 microns) to fill the oil tank.

4) The high pressure and high speed of middle opening pumps are allowed peak values for short-term use; manufacturers should avoid long-term use. Otherwise, it will affect the lifespan of hydraulic pumps.

5) The normal working oil temperature for middle opening pumps is between 15-65 degrees; generally, the high temperature of the pump casing is 10-20 degrees higher than that of the inlet oil temperature in the tank. When the oil temperature in the tank reaches 65 degrees, the high temperature of the pump casing should not exceed 75-85 degrees.

It is recommended that secondary grouting for both middle opening pump bases and motor bases use a welded universal base considering its rigidity; this universal base should also be embedded in concrete with only its upper layer exposed.

The above introduces precautions for installing and using middle opening pumps; however, they may not suit all enterprises. Practical operations are needed to address actual issues, following operational specifications proposed by enterprises to ensure proper use of middle opening pumps.
