What are the selection methods for stainless steel middle-opening pumps?

The application range of middle-opening pumps is very broad, and they are widely used in various industries. When considering the type of stainless steel middle-opening pump, factors such as liquid delivery volume, device lift, liquid properties, pipeline layout, and operating conditions are taken into account. Now, let's explore the selection methods for stainless steel middle-opening pumps!

The application range of middle-opening pumps is very broad, and they are widely used in various industries. The selection of stainless steel middle-opening pumps mainly considers the liquid delivery volume, device head, liquid properties, pipeline layout, and operating conditions. Let's take a look at the selection methods for stainless steel middle-opening pumps!

Liquid properties include the name of the liquid medium, physical properties, chemical properties, and other characteristics. The chemical properties mainly refer to the chemical corrosiveness and toxicity of the liquid medium. Physical properties include temperature, density, viscosity, diameter of solid particles in the medium, and gas content. These are related to the system head, effective cavitation margin calculations, and suitable pump types. They are important bases for selecting materials for middle-opening pumps and their shaft seal models.

The flow rate of middle-opening pumps is one of the important performance data for pump selection. When selecting a stainless steel middle-opening pump, it is based on the maximum flow rate while considering normal flow. In the absence of a large flow rate, it directly relates to the production capacity and delivery capacity of the entire device. The process design from the design institute can calculate three types of flow rates: normal, small, and large. Generally, it is advisable to take 1.1 times the normal flow rate as the large flow rate.

The required head for the middle-opening pump system is another important performance data for pump selection, usually selected with an increase of 5% to 10% in head.

The selection of middle-opening pumps is determined based on device layout, terrain conditions, water level conditions, and operating conditions to choose horizontal, vertical, or other types (such as tubular, submersible, submerged, non-clogging, self-priming, gear type, etc.) pumps.

The pipeline layout conditions for middle-opening pump devices refer to the height of liquid intake, intake distance, intake direction (such as side low liquid level or outlet side high liquid level), as well as data on pipeline specifications and their lengths, materials, pipeline specifications, quantities, etc., for calculating system head and verifying cavitation margin.

Liquid operation includes saturated vapor pressure p, suction side pressure PS, discharge side container pressure PZ, height, environmental temperature operation (whether it is intermittent or continuous), whether the pump position is fixed or movable, etc. There are many contents regarding operating conditions.

For middle-opening pumps that transport liquids with a viscosity greater than 20 mm²/s (or density greater than 1000 kg/m³), the pump characteristic curve should be converted to its viscosity or performance curve under that density. It is especially important to carefully calculate or compare suction performance and input power.

Determining the number of stainless steel double-suction middle-opening pumps and their standby rate: one large pump is equivalent to two small pumps running in parallel (with the same head and flow). A large pump is more efficient than a small pump; therefore, from an energy-saving perspective, it is better to choose one large pump instead of two small ones. However, under certain circumstances for normally operating pumps, generally only one is used. When two pumps are combined in parallel with a very large flow rate that one pump cannot achieve alone and a standby rate of 50% is needed for a large pump, two small pumps can be operated alternately with two on standby (a total of three).
