Some knowledge points about slurry pumps

Slurry pumps are mainly used for transporting highly abrasive slurries, which are devices that handle a mixture of solid particles containing sludge and water, such as various mining tailings. After mineral processing and classification, whether it is concentrate or tailings, they consist of a mixture of solid grinding powder and water, which will be transported by the slurry pump. Due to the high-speed operation of the machine, ordinary slurry pumps cannot withstand the high-intensity friction of the slurry, so the materials of the pump are required to have high wear resistance. Therefore, common flow components are made from high-hardness, long-life high-chromium alloys (such as A05, A49, etc.). For some slurries that are relatively less abrasive or have slight corrosiveness, it is possible to make...

Slurry pumps are mainly used for transporting highly abrasive slurries, which are a mixture of solid particles containing sludge and water, such as various mining tailings. After mineral processing and classification, whether it is concentrate or tailings, they are mixtures of solid grinding powder and water that will be transported by slurry pumps. Due to the high-speed operation of the machine, ordinary slurry pumps cannot withstand the high-intensity friction of the slurry, so the materials of the pump must have high wear resistance. Therefore, common flow components are made of high-hardness, long-life high-chromium alloys (such as A05, A49, etc.). For slurries that are relatively less abrasive or slightly corrosive, wear-resistant rubber materials can be used, which are also cheaper than high-chromium alloys.

Generally, all models from slurry pump manufacturers use A05 as the material, with the main property being wear resistance and the secondary property being corrosion resistance (compared to ordinary materials). If the slurry being transported is highly corrosive, we recommend using A49 material, which is mainly used for the impeller material of flue gas desulfurization circulation pumps.

Wear-resistant slurry pumps can be divided into horizontal slurry pumps and vertical (submersible) slurry pumps. We refer to them this way because their main performance characteristic is wear resistance. Compared to other ordinary material pumps, such as clean water pumps, the price of slurry pumps is often higher than that of clean water pumps of the same size (such as the same weight). Since the medium of ordinary pumps is mainly water and does not have abrasive properties, their materials are generally gray cast iron or ductile iron, while wear-resistant slurry pumps mostly use Cr alloy Cr26-28 (also known as A05), with high-quality materials also containing metal elements like nickel, manganese, and vanadium.

80% of applications in mineral processing plants are in mining mineral processing plants. Due to poor conditions during the first selection of ore, the service life of slurry pumps in this segment is generally shorter. Therefore, high-chromium alloys are used for the flow components of slurry pumps, which are currently considered good wear-resistant materials in the slurry pump industry. Of course, different ores have different abrasiveness. For example, if the relative abrasiveness in the concentrate transport section decreases, the overall service life of the pump will be longer.

Submersible slurry pumps (ZJQ slurry pumps) are vertical slurry pumps. In terms of structure, the pump shaft is generally perpendicular to the horizontal position; however, during operation, the entire pump, including the motor part, is below the liquid surface, hence it is called 'submersible'.

In terms of usability, submersible slurry pumps are more convenient than submersible vertical slurry pumps as they can be directly immersed in sludge. The pump consists of two parts: a motor and a pump, separated by an oil isolation chamber and a mechanical seal assembly. It is an electromechanical integrated product. The motor and pump share the same shaft (rotor), making it compact in structure.

The above are some knowledge points about slurry pumps. I hope everyone can study and understand relevant knowledge carefully to choose products and equipment that meet their needs to ensure their production efficiency and economic benefits.
