A copper-cobalt mine is located 70 kilometers east of Kolwezi City, Lualaba Province, Democratic Republic of Congo. Equipment must traverse a rugged 3000-kilometer transport line akin to a washboard road, enduring ocean shipping and long-distance inland bumps before reaching the construction site. The high-temperature and high-humidity environment poses a severe test to equipment durability. More complex is that the tailings return water system needs to operate stably in a strongly acidic medium with a pH value of 2~2.5, which poses an unprecedented challenge to the corrosion resistance, efficiency, and stability of the complete set of equipment for the modular floating water intake system (including the pontoon) of the tailings return water pump station.  

To meet the challenges of water intake in complex waters, we innovatively adopt an advanced modular design system. This system is centered on the concept of scientific and high efficiency, optimized for complex working conditions, and is highly adaptable and flexible, capable of handling various complex water bodies.

The main body of the system is a modular floating platform design. During operation, it can automatically adjust in real-time with the water level of the tailings pond. When the water level rises, it rises; when the water level falls, it falls, ensuring that the water intake effectively takes in water, improving system stability and water intake efficiency. Even with significant water level fluctuations, stable water intake can be maintained, guaranteeing production water supply.

In addition, the system adopts a modular combination design of pontoons and pump units. The pontoon and pump unit modules are independently designed and manufactured, with standardized interfaces and dimensions. During installation, they can be quickly assembled by splicing. This simplifies the process, reduces technical difficulty and labor input, and shortens the installation cycle by 40%.

Based on the hydrogeological data of the tailings pond, the pontoon structure and pump unit layout are optimized to ensure that the system operates stably in strong winds and waves, strong acid, strong alkali, and high-corrosion environments.
