First, a double suction pump mainly draws in the medium from both ends of the impeller, with a sealing chamber on each side of the impeller. It replaces pumps with two suction inlets. The anti-cavitation capability of a double suction pump is stronger than that of a single suction pump. Since the medium is drawn in from both ends of the impeller, it creates hydraulic symmetry, making the axial thrust balance of a double suction pump superior to that of a single suction pump, resulting in smoother operation. Additionally, the flow velocity of the medium is lower, making it less likely for cavitation to occur in the impeller. However, a double suction pump has an additional sealing chamber compared to a single suction pump, so its cost is relatively higher.

When the flow rate of the pump is very large, if it is a single suction pump, the inlet and outlet diameters must be very large, and the rotational speed cannot be too high; it should be stable around 1450 rpm.
